About
Located in a gorgeous complex that opened in 2012, Trout Lake Community Centre (TLCC) is collaboratively operated by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Trout Lake Community Centre Association. You can read about the Joint Operating Agreement that defines our partnership here.
Together we offer more than 200 programs for all ages including art, dance, fitness, skating, yoga, day camps, drop-in sports, indoor cycling, cooking classes, various martial arts, and more!
Were you looking for info about renting Trout Lake’s rooms (or gymnasium)? Find it in the Facilities menu.
There you can also read everything you need to know about the Park Board operated Fitness Centre and Arena.
Trout Lake Community Centre is located on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We acknowledge the interconnected histories of colonization and systemic racism that affect generations of Indigenous people living in this territory.
What are your COVID-19 safety protocols?
You are not obligated to wear a mask and proof of vaccination is not currently required. However, staff and patrons are still asked to carefully self-monitor and stay home when ill.
Is there a bank machine?
No, sorry, there is no cash machine on site.
Is there a café?
Yes! The café serves espresso-based drinks, cold drinks, snacks, sandwiches, and fresh-baked cookies and muffins, among other goodies.
It is located in the Rink lobby. If you come from the Centre’s main parking lot, that means you should walk through the lobby and straight down the Centre’s main hall and through the wood doors to the rink.
Do you have a daycare
No. We have a licensed preschool for children aged 3 and 4 years old. Registration takes place in late winter for the following program year. Preschool begins in September and runs through June.
We occasionally have spots come open during the year. Please phone to enquire about the waitlist: 604-257-6955.
Do you have a library
No. The nearest library is Britannia.
Do you have a pool?
No.
Do you have free showers?
Yes.
What is the wifi password?
Trout Lake is on the City of Vancouver’s Van Wifi network. It does not require a password but you do have to actively accept the terms through a pop-up page when you first select the network.
Do you have a rink?
Yes, the Trout Lake Ice Rink is NHL-sized. The ice is in September to March. And then the rink is the site of a dry floor from April to August.
Do you have a seniors centre?
While we don’t have a seniors centre per se, our Seniors Committee is very active and Trout Lake has regular seniors’ activities and targeted programs. Come by the Centre to find out more or check out the Program Guide and Upcoming Events.
Lost and found?
Yes, we do collect found items at the front desk (phone 604-257-6955) but unfortunately we can keep things only for a short period because we lack storage space.
What do I need to know about photography at Trout Lake?
Trout Lake Community Centre Association and Park Board sometimes take photos/videos/other media in order to promote programs in print or online. If people are included in those photos and are identifiable, they will be asked to sign a photo release form. Participants are always welcome to deny permission for their photo to be taken when taking part in a Trout Lake program.
Instructors are not allowed to take photos of the classes they instruct, or to ask participants for permission to take their photo.
Green building
We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the current Trout Lake Community Centre building in 2022. It is a great time to celebrate the facility’s LEED Gold Certification, which includes many features designed to conserve energy and water.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability. Sustainable buildings save money, improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions and create healthier places for people.
Certification comes only after building projects are assessed by how well they address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials and indoor environmental quality.
The building was designed by Walter Francl Architecture Inc.
Greening programs and services
Greener art
The team at Trout Lake has been transforming our Art Studio to include more wooden toys such as Grapat Mandala gorgeous wooden loose parts and shapes, Magic Wood tree house building set, wooden beads, and magnifiers.
- We have replaced plastic with metal bowls and trays for the children to use for art making, exploring play, and sorting.
- We made a children’s puppet theatre and hope to expand on our puppet collection.
- In terms of art supplies, we have eliminated glitter/glitter glue and small plastic from the cupboards, and have replaced them with more sustainable options such as natural materials and fibers.
- We also encourage outdoor exploring and using natural materials found locally.
We look forward to sharing these with you in programs such as Creative Play and Expressive Arts for Preschoolers, as well as Junior Author Artist Studio.
Did you know? The reason we are not offering glitter in our programs anymore is that it is made of a polymer called polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or Mylar, and winds up in landfills or washed down drains — eventually making it to water sources.
These microplastics account for 92.4 percent of the total 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic floating around in the ocean. Instead of glitter you can decorate with paper confetti, dyed salt or sugar, seed beads, sand or natural leaves.
