Interactive Events for Hanami 2021!
April 6, 2021
The literal translation of the Japanese word “hanami” means “flower viewing”, but the word is commonly associated with the appreciation and enjoyment of cherry blossoms in particular.
In Japan, during hanami season a festive spirit spreads through the streets and people flock outdoors to spend time wherever cherry trees are found!
Trout Lake Community Centre invites you to join in celebrating hanami in two unique ways this year.
1. Follow the map to local blossoms!
We want to help you discover cherry blossom trees around our very own neighbourhood.
Below there is a map marking some of the cherry blossoms in our local area. Cherry blossoms typically bloom by mid-April in this neighborhood, so we encourage you to stroll around and celebrate, discover, and enjoy hanami. Take a selfie or family shot at one of our local cherry blossoms and tag #troutlakecc! Follow us on social media via the icons above the top menu bar.

2. Participate in Trout Lake’s origami art installation!
Trout Lake is also inviting you to contribute to a beautiful community-created cherry blossom tree inside the community centre.
Come and pick up a free packet of origami paper to use in crafting your origami contribution! Never done origami before? No problem! Go home and try it out by following along the videos below to create your own paper crane and cherry blossom.
Then come back to the community centre and hang your creation on the collaborative art installation in the centre’s lobby.
